Dial-up Stream - Important Information
Added: 23 Feb 2009 21:56

Hi all, we have now switched our low bandwidth (or Dial-up) stream to an AAC+ stream (techy info here).
We have done this because the Windows Media stream we were using before was unreliable and offered inferior mono sound quaility. The new Dial-up stream offers superb stereo sound quality at the same bitrate. For many people, you will hardly be able to notice the difference between the Broadband stream (128kbit/s) and the Dialup (32kbit/s).
This also offers the advantage that people who are on a limited download internet plan to use the new stream to preserve their download allowance (only using approx 1 GB over 72 hours!).
Also listeners who suffer from buffering (cutting out) of the broadband stream can take advantage of the new, lower bandwidth stream.
To listen, Winamp 5 already supports AAC+ as standard. Download it here free (recommended).
If you are using Windows Media Player, or Energy FM's Pop-up Player you will need to install the plugin available from this page.
VLC can also be used to play AAC+ streams and is available to use across different operating systems such as Mac OS X and Linux. Download it here free.
Real Player (tested with version 11) also plays AAC+.
